After being open for less than 6 months, we were delighted to be shortlisted for the Sustainable Construction New Build category in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards in 2013. The aim of these awards is to encourage, reward and gain recognition for the excellent work businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly do to improve their sustainability.
Year on year the standards at these Awards rises and it is increasingly difficult to be recognized in the competitive category we entered, hence our excitement at being shortlisted. We were eventually awarded Highly Commended, with the judges describing Emerald Cornwall as a development that “meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. This is high praise indeed and succinctly captures part of the vision we had in creating Emerald Cornwall.
We are extremely proud to have been highly commended, when up against many other incredible projects. We are of course also delighted to see how well our award winning houses perform in terms of sustainability. We continuously measure their performance, for example by analysing the amount of power we are using to keep them warm. They retain their heat incredibly well, with very little assistance from the air source pumps we have installed. This is a reward in itself. The effort to build sustainably has been worth every penny when you see this sort of result at the end of it all!
